We are retired military, marries 50 years, have 2 small, well behaved dogs, we are responsible dog owners. We have been to Hawaii a few times on vacation, Hale Koa, Bellows and Waianae..and love Hawaii. We want to rent , until we can find a location we want to buy in and if the price is right, we qualify for a va loan, and would use it. We would be willing to sign a long term lease. and our monthly budget would be 1200 a month or less if we were to be so luck. Thank you in advance for any information you may share with us.

Hi Ellen,

Give me a call at 808 723 0900. I can give you some good options. To get to Pearl Harbor Naval Facility, go to The Bus for a site map (a little slow to load sometimes). You probably want to search for homes that are on the routes for The Bus. From what I have seen, most of the workers get there before 7 and leave around 3 or 3:30. If he going to the Naval Supply Center, that's on the far (Ewa side or West side) of Pearl Harbor. The maintenance facility is adjacent to Hickam Air Force Base, on the side by the airport. From Downtown Honolulu area, then route 9 is the way to go to the Nimitz Gate area. That's about a mile from the Industrial Shipyard entrance. He should ask his coworkers about the best way to get there.

Give me a call and we can discuss your budget and the options available to you. I can also tell you about good ways and places to start your job search. The sooner you start, the better.

Hello, I just ran across your posting while trying to information on Oahu and the cost of living. I have been looking at rental properties for sometime now and I am only getting more confused. I am being tranferred with my husband sometime in the nest month or so. We have around a month stay in a hotel to look for a place to live. My husband will be working out of the Pearl Harbor facility, he would like to be able to use public transportation to and from work and I would like to be able to find a job near where we will be living. If you could advise me on where to look for a place to live that is safe and not to expensive. I would like a two bedroom but we will be happy in something smaller like a 1 bedroom or even a studio if it isn't the size of a closet. Our budget is tight we have 2 children still in college and we have been unable to sell our current home so we may be stuck with a morgage payment here. We hope to be able to get a place in Oahu that won't put us to far behind the eight ball if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the information it was very helpful and the most straight forward I have seen. I feel a little better about the mosst but still can't help worrying about the cost of living there. If you would let me know anything else that you think is important please write me. Ellen,
